Why Don't Americans Like Soccer?

So, I was on lunch yesterday, and I walked by a little store run by a couple of Italian guys. There was also a Colombian guy standing by the counter--they were watching a soccer match on the computer, Italy vs Ghana. And they were into the game. I asked about the US match, our team lost to Czech Rep 3-0. As I went through the day, I told people how we were crushed, and the responses were such as shrugs, "who cares", "its only soccer"....Why don't Americans like soccer? I have an idea that its because we just aren't very good at it. In the 70's, most Americans knew who Pélé was--we even got him to play in the US soccer league for a while (with the NY Cosmos of the NASL). But, because we didn't learn better from him, soccer fizzled out in America. A few years back, our ladies' soccer team took over the world, and we were only interested for a minute. In 1980 our men's hockey team took it all, and we have loved hockey ever since.
So, why do you think Americans don't like soccer?

because its not ours...we love baseball because its the great American past time...football, we're the only country who likes it, its ours...basically we don't like things europe does so we can be different, so we can be america...keep in mind im not included in this generalization i love soccer and was crushed by our 3-0 loss to czech as was i heartbroken by japan's 3-1 loss to australia :( but i did get to see some of brazil's game vs. croatia which was amazing i only saw the 1st goal though b/c my friends don't like soccer to much, i guess they're to american...i also love tennis which is one of the least popular sports in america, for example most people know Andy Roddick as the guy who used to go out with Mandy Moore, no one knows him as america's greatest tennis player

we, Americans, love soccer...The MSL is a watered down, overtly commercialed VERSION of FIFA soccer. Americans are smarter then they look....they want the real mcoy.
