New Blog

I have decided to start another blog. I will not neglect this one, but the other has a different theme. It will be specifically for Christian men. It is called the "Iron Men's Blog", or the sharpening blog.
I am looking for a team to help me with this. So, Christian men who are interested, e-mail me (from my profile).

¿De qué se trata?

Many of my new friends are doing it or have done it (here in America), and have been trying to persuade me to move to Ecuador.

What do you think about living in a foreign country with a foreign language?

they like to party

The first pic is just a few of the people at the party Saturday night. The party started as a birthday celebration of the girls (seen with me in the second pic), that part lasted from about 3pm to 7pm. The rest of the party--which was mainly dancing--went until the sun came up the next morning. There were somewhere around 75-80 people at the start of the party...maybe 30 of us made it through the night (including Jenny and Steph!). Every time I tried to take a break, I was pulled back onto the dance floor, the American novelty that I was. Otherwise, I might have more pics from the party. I did receive a marriage proposal at this party....

Sight-seeing?

The city of Cuenca is about 8,000 ft above sea level. We traveled higher up the mountain so I could see all the city. This shot is part of it. It was breath-taking.

Now THAT is a produce aisle!

Home

Okay, so I'm home. I missed a lot of snow, and I missed a lot of people.
But, I will miss Ecuador.
A lot.
The welcome party..last Friday night. We were scheduled to arrive around 11:00 pm. About 30 people from the neighborhood in Cuenca drove almost 4 hours to welcome us, they were waiting in Guayaquil since 10:00 pm. Our plane arrived a little after 1:00 am. It was a serious party atmosphere at the airport..I am actually tearing up as I recall the scene. They were overjoyed to see us...not just the girls, either. I would have been content to just stand back and watch the family celebrate the niñas that they had not ever met before..their blood relatives. But, I was just as celebrated, which was an amazing feeling. I have a lifetime of stories to tell from the last 7 days..but you'll have to see me in person to get most of them. And, believe me, I am ready to tell them. I have about 350 good pics...here are a couple.
Pic #1 is a neighborhood in the city of Cuenca, right outside the home we stayed in..at dusk. This may be my favorite non-people shot ever.
Pic #2 is La Cascada Giron....from about a mile away. This is surely a wondrous sight of Creation.
Pic #3 is (clockwise) Santiago, Milly, Stephanie, and Jennifer. Son primos. Perhaps my favorite people shot.

More stories and pics to come.

I'm Outta Here!!!

See ya in a week!

Well, this is a big deal to me. Thank you all who have started praying for us, and please, please, please continue. My plane is scheduled for take-off at 11:50 from Philadelphia, and, after a Miami layover, we should arrive in Guayaquil around 11:00 pm. Then, we have a three hour drive to Cuenca, our city of dwelling for the next 6 days. I expect lots of comments when I see this next week :) And, I promise some good stories.
I thought about attempting the "reality blog" as done before only by experts, but...well, to be honest, I'm too cheap to pay for air. Actually, I will have my hands full...I might try this some other time when I travel alone or with adults.
Hasta luego, vengo suave, y toma El Señor contigo!

My little darling....We will be setting off for Ecuador this very Friday. I can't believe how fast February came! Our excitement is growing, but it will be a long day. We leave just before noon from Philadelphia, and arrive in Guayaquil around 11 pm. Then, we have a 3 hour drive to Cuenca...hopefully we'll all be able to sleep on the plane. But, I doubt it.
