Who-Ha 2-for-Tuesday

Come on, let me get a "who-ha"...nobody's listening.
There ya go--that's what I'm talking about!

So its Tuesday, Brazil plays Ghana today, which could turn out to be a good game....Ghana beat Czech Rep, who beat US and lost to Italy, who tied US and also beat Ghana, who also beat US.
Translation: US no wins, go home.
Czech Republic: ranked #2 in the world, go home.
Ghana: play Brazil today, go home. (prediction)
Italy: play Ukraine Friday, maybe play Argentina (or Germany) July 4, go home. (prediction)

Your 2-for--Spain vs France also today, outcome should have little effect in tourney final results.

Final game, (I think): Argentina vs Brazil, Brazil wins by 1 goooooaaaaaaaalllll!!!

Sorry Hogans, Pez, and company that Creation got cancelled..but--the bright side is Adam and Kelly, plus a l'il pea, get to visit all of us here in Collingswood.
We miss Melissa, but she's having a great time without us en La France.
We miss Johnny, but he's getting stronger every day--make sure you get to visit him at CHOP.
That's it for now---one last

Food "Service"

Okay, so I worked at a restaurant for almost 20 years. I have tried to make it a point to show patience at other restaurants, and I am usually good to waiters/waitresses. I also make it a point to not brag about my own experience when I do have a problem that needs to be solved.
Here's an experience that broke the deal with me and Wendy's:

I went for lunch, and ordered a combo meal, even told her to "biggie size" it without her asking, told her my drink flavor w/o being asked..I like to make it easy when possible-I know what they go through. When I got to the window, she looked at the back of my truck (not me) and said "six-fitty." I apologized, and said very nicely "I would actually like to add one of those yogurt things" (its what I really said). Her reply was "you can't add stuff at the window, six-fitty." Her manager was standing near her, and looked over when the girl said that. I asked the manager if that was true, that Wendy's doesn't want to increase their sales because its "at the window". The manager walked away without answering me. Now, as the reader, you may wonder if she didn't hear me..but I can tell you that she did. She, unlike the cashier, made eye-contact with me when I spoke, and turned after I finished my question.
Wendy's was never my favorite, but they were better than BK...now they are on the same level for me. I haven't been to BK in at least 5 years. This was bad customer relations, poor service, and poor business. My next visit to Wendy's will not happen for a looooooong time.

Why Don't Americans Like Soccer?

So, I was on lunch yesterday, and I walked by a little store run by a couple of Italian guys. There was also a Colombian guy standing by the counter--they were watching a soccer match on the computer, Italy vs Ghana. And they were into the game. I asked about the US match, our team lost to Czech Rep 3-0. As I went through the day, I told people how we were crushed, and the responses were such as shrugs, "who cares", "its only soccer"....Why don't Americans like soccer? I have an idea that its because we just aren't very good at it. In the 70's, most Americans knew who Pélé was--we even got him to play in the US soccer league for a while (with the NY Cosmos of the NASL). But, because we didn't learn better from him, soccer fizzled out in America. A few years back, our ladies' soccer team took over the world, and we were only interested for a minute. In 1980 our men's hockey team took it all, and we have loved hockey ever since.
So, why do you think Americans don't like soccer?

World Cup Soccer

So, I saved my 100th post for some world class stuff:

2006 FIFA World Cup

It starts today, guys...and if you don't know, you better recognize. China alone is expecting about 10 billion television viewers for their games. World Cup only happens every 4 years, like the Olympics, and I personally find it more exciting. I have met a few people the last couple weeks who are going to Germany to witness some of the matches in person....I must admit, I am a little jealous...
Match 1 is at noon (eastern) today between Germany and Costa Rica. The first USA match is Monday at noon vs Czech Republic. (ESPN.com has the
complete schedule).

Check out the venue for this year's tournament. I know the stadium looks calm now, but it won't be by the time you read this. This is the most popular game in the world!

How much of the World Cup do you think you'll watch?
More importantly, who do you think will win it all?

New food question

I could bore you with definitions, explaining why 3 different words exist....but we all know that when they get to your plate, they are essentially the same.

Hotcakes, pancakes, or flapjacks?

Roloson finished

Well, you may have noticed I have been rooting for Edmonton this post-season...my hopes may have been dashed last night. Dwayne Roloson took the Oilers' net for the first time March 8th, and held it ever since. Last night he got run over by the Hurricanes's Andrew Ladd, and knocked right out of the playoffs. Don't be mad at Laddy, his job is to hit--and he did it well.
"Goalie's not good. Won't be back in the series," said Oiler's coach Craig MacTavish.
But, Barry Melrose (not one of my favorites) still believes in Edmonton's chance for the cup.
And, for a change, I am hoping that Barry is right.
